Waiting For Daddy

The J-bird and Miss V like to pull up a couple of chairs in the front hallway and watch the door for Daddy most evenings.

They seem to enjoy the waiting

And it's fun to see them enjoy each other, as Miss V gets a little older

The J-bird gets to run his motormouth, and Miss V happily listens.

Though they get in the occasional (daily) scrap, they are usually delighted with one another's company.

Though sometimes, the waiting gets a little long

...and they give up.

Beeboppin' With Birdie

Our very dear friends are here visiting from Arizona, and we're having SO much fun! Today, Birdie (Her name is actually Kimberly, but when the J-bird was a baby, he called her "Birdie", sort of stuck), her sweet baby G (a month younger than Miss V), along with my kids and I spent the morning at the zoo.

Can you tell my daughter is used to having her picture taken? She immediately smiles and waves.

Part of what we love about the Oregon Zoo in Portland is all the little things for children. We've been there so much that the J-bird knows it ALL, and he had a great time showing Birdie all his favorite stuff. (She was duly impressed)

The eagle nest replica

Not a replica.

Bears are big. My J-bird is not.

Birdie - also not.

Sea lions

And two of the cutest creatures we saw all day, in repose.

So now this is a thing...

Good thing she's cute, or hauling her off the table 4000 times a day might get to be a drag.

To Market, To Market... buy lots of produce (not shown - lettuce and corn and basil, oh my)... get cherry juice all over a cute dress (and face - both came clean)... try a Hot Lips boysenberry pop... enjoy our wonderful friends, who are here visiting for 10 days... spend time in the beautiful, sunny weather together... wade in a random wading pool that we passed by chance, taking a different walking route back to the car...

...and to laugh with the baby, as she got completely soaked and thoroughly enjoyed every second of it!

Vievel Knievel Strikes Again

That would be my tiny 15 month old daredevil, climbing on the coffee table. Maybe she learned how to play the Indiana Jones Game from her Aunt Lala in Kansas (Never heard of this game? That's because my friend, Laura made it up. It involves walking around the room without ever touching the floor, and it is a glorious, awesome game, which is only played by awesome people.) or perhaps she's just a future free-climber, but either way, this child has ZERO fear. She'll climb on anything, and most of the time, falling down just makes her laugh. This is bizarre to me, because the J-bird has always been so cautious. He still doesn't really like to climb, preferring, instead to be lifted like royalty to his desired perch ;). I'm not sure what to do about it, besides watch her climb, try to catch her when she falls (aka:gets to bragging, loses her balance and tumbles to her doom, giving me a heart attack every time), laugh at her gutsiness, take lots of photos and hope for the best.

Do you have a little climber? Got any advice for me?

Buffee Ann's Family Photos

While I was in Kansas, I had the privilege of taking some photos of my friend Buffee and her family. It was so fun to see them. We took the photos at the Loose Park Rose Garden in Kansas City, which is where my sweet James took me on our first date!

My favorite 4th of July photo!

We were out at the lake with my in-laws, and their lake community had a little "Children's Parade". My J-bird was thrilled with the flag waving, thrilled with running alongside my mother-in-law's (very decorated - by J and his cousins) golf cart, and thrilled with the whole idea of being IN a PARADE. And even though it was hotter than the spa level of Perdition that day, we all had a great time and made a lovely memory.

Alrighty Then...

I'm sure you've picked up on the fact that we spent some time recently visiting family in Kansas. James asked me not to come right out and say so, either here or on Facebook, because there are jerks who hawk that stuff for opportunities to rob. Nice. Anyway, the kids and I left at the beginning of June, and James joined us for the first couple weeks in July, and now we're home, so I can start catching up and share photos and stories from our trip as I luxuriate in the exquisite joy that is my own bed and shower and yard and stuff.

We spent the 4th out at my mother-in-law's lakehouse on Lake Wabaunsee in the beautiful Kansas Flint Hills.
My J-bird got to do a great deal of fishing, which thrilled him, no end.

Miss V is a bit small for hooks and worms, so she just watched, like she watches everything - happily ;)

We took several rides on the boat as well.

A great hit, as activities go!

Here's the view approaching the dock

The nights are just beautiful out there. Stars forever and the lights around the lake reflecting on the water. So pretty.

Thunder and lightning on the horizon

And then the fireworks!

LOTS of fireworks. People went all out.

Here's a view of the LakeHoux from the water at night. I have lots more photos of my kids with their cousins, my kids with both sets of grandparents, my kids in every conceivable Kansas setting...and I'll get to all those. For now though, I'll finish the little bits of unpacking left to me and keep settling us back in to our home and our life in Oregon. I'm stretching back out into my space, relaxing and breathing, as you do when you've spent a very long time away. We had a wonderful time. And now I'm glad to be home.
