Know Your Place

There are probably 4,000 ways to teach a child to understand the 1s, 10s, and 100s. This is how I did it, and it took the J-bird less than 5 minutes to grasp it. I think it took longer to prepare the activity than it did to teach the material. :)

I made three sets of 0-9 cards, using three different colors. I then drew three lines on a piece of paper and labeled each one. We started with one digit numbers, moved to two digit numbers, then ran through three digit numbers. We took turns picking which numbers would go in the different spaces, and then the J-bird would rattle off what we'd come up with. Simple, but effective.

Have you got any other ways of teaching this? I love trying multiple approaches.
